Altes Rathaus Esslingen am Neckar
Special location
The Old Town Hall in Esslingen on the Neckar, built around 1420, has been described by experts as a masterpiece of the carpenter's art. Originally planned as a merchant's and excise house, the north side of the building was redesigned in 1586-1589 in the Renaissance style. At the same time, it received the bell tower and the astronomical clock.
Today, it is a favourite gathering place for the citizens of Esslingen and visitors from a long way round about — in the Gothic-style “Bürgersaal” (Citizens' Room), the Baroquestyle “Ratsstube” (Aldermen's Room), in the historical ambience of the “Lempp-Zimmer”, or in the spacious Schickhardt hall.
