Innovative Stuttgart – from four wheels to two legs

The start-up enterprise Bataillon Belette from the Stuttgart Region achieved a breakthrough following its appearance on the TV show "Die Höhle der Löwen" (The Dragons' Den/Shark Tank). With its product, tear-resistant tights, the company proved once again just how much innovative and inventive talent is to be found in the Stuttgart Region.

But what do tights have in common with Stuttgart? Stuttgart, the cradle of the automobile and one of Europe's foremost high-tech locations, is not exactly famous as a fashion metropolis. But this extremely successful spin-off proves the contrary.

Bataillon Belette's founders were originally at home in the automotive sector, studied vehicle design in Reutlingen with the focus on interior fittings, and harbour a passion for materials. With their new product they have transferred the perfect balance between functionality, appeal and durability from automobile construction to the clothing trade and reinvented tights. Thanks to their success on TV in Die Höhle der Löwen, sales figures have risen within a short period from 4,000 to 400,000 pairs of tights – for the founders an "American-Swabian Dream".

Stuttgart is and always will be an innovative leader, and it is no coincidence that it leads the field in Germany for innovation and research, boasting the largest number of patent applications, the greatest density of research institutions and the highest rate of investment in research and development. Most recent example: Bataillon Belette.
