Creative Economy

Whether architecture, design or photography, books and publishers or press and media, broadcasting and films or art and culture – the creative sectors of industry play a key role in the Stuttgart Region.

With over 8 600 enterprises and a turnover of 19 billion euros, the creative economy is one of the location's defining sectors. The region is known as a traditional centre of publishing, with more than 250 publishing houses, and is renowned for its innovative advertising agencies, designers and architectural firms. The fields of animated film and the planning of trade fairs, museums and exhibitions are particular strong points. The expert, internationally acknowledged competence of media representatives and people of creative talent is also one of the Stuttgart Region's main assets: its numerous regional educational and training facilities, such as the Stuttgart Media University or the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg, have an excellent reputation.

When it comes to finding Germany's most creative agency or handing out awards such as Red Dots, Cannes Lions, ADC Nails and Adams & Evas, you can be sure that here, too, companies from the Stuttgart Region will regularly appear in the receiving line.

Within the framework of the 2012, 2014 and the 2016 City of Culture rankings, the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), on behalf of the Berenberg Bank, chose Stuttgart from among Germany's 30 largest metropolises as the Number One City of Culture. Stuttgart excels with several top placements. The award was conferred for the state capital's first-class range of culture options. Stuttgart's cultural flagships include the city's art museums and its celebrated orchestras, music festivals in a variety of genres, its well-known architectural highlights, and the State Theatres with the world-famous Stuttgart Ballet, the award-winning Stuttgart Opera and innovative theatre productions.
