Aerospace

In the aerospace sector this economic area in the South of Germany indisputably leads the field. More than 40 per cent of all those employed in the German aerospace industry work in Baden-Württemberg – 80 per cent of the research institutions in the state are based in the Stuttgart Region.

October 2011 saw the opening of the Baden-Württemberg Aerospace Centre (RZBW) on the Stuttgart University campus, giving the region the largest and most important aerospace research and training facility in the whole of Europe today. It is therefore not surprising that some 75 per cent of all German aerospace engineers also studied in Stuttgart.

The new research centre is a place for the transfer of technology and exchange of ideas between science, industry and the public sector, as well as setting new standards with its architecture. In addition, it is an important part of the joint research campus with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and thus the central forum of the European aerospace sector as a whole.
